SNSD’s YoonA & Taeyeon get criticized by netizens for “unprofessional behavior”

From the recent publish article from allkpop,

SNSD‘s YoonA and Taeyeon are becoming a ‘hot issue’ due to their behavior during an American interview.
SNSD was recently interviewed by ‘MTV IGGY’ at the MTV building in New York’s iconic Times Square. While Tiffany and Jessica wowed netizens back home with their fluent English, their groupmates YoonA and Taeyeon have been receiving some flak.
During the interview, YoonA and Taeyeon were both seen with what Korean media outlets are calling “dark expressions”. While the others laughed and smiled, the two looked morose and worn out. Taeyeon was even caught on screen with her chin in her hands, looking somewhat bored.
Netizens are criticizing the girls on their behavior, saying things like, “As Korea’s cultural representatives, shouldn’t they put their best face forward?”, I’m a little disappointed… even if they’re tired, this is an important Hallyu moment”, and “Very unprofessional.”
Others rallied to YoonA and Taeyeon’s side, arguing that the girls had been suffering from a cold that resulted from their busy schedules.
Are K-netizens overreacting, or is there a grain of truth in their arguments? Toss us your thoughts below.

and this is my comment
The article stating that the girls specifically Taeyeon and Yoona are being criticize for being unprofessional during an interview. I sadly have to say that I have to agree as well as to disagree with this statement. We sones know that the girls are really really fatique and needed some rest.( SMEnt. LET THE GIRLS REST FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!)  However they should have been a little professional or maybe just put a happy face a little bit. I can understand that most of the girls can't really understand well english but the girls could just maybe just look to one spot and daydream about something happy (well that works for me).Anyway i'm sure the girls have no intention of doing the it intentionally.

How I started to become a sone

I stubble upon a video which interest me to make this article.

well according to the video he got hook with SNSD about a year ago and experiencing some unexplained obsessiveness about SNSD. Well to be honest I too did went through the same period of the obsessiveness. It practically makes me rethink about everything in my life. How I see thinks around At first I said that Its not going to last long this liking of SNSD. Just like any other music I had listened in the past. Well months past and the liking is still there haven't change one bit and it still there until today. This is my first time, I like a music band or group and the feeling last until now. I think all other sones go through the same type of period of obsessiveness. As time goes by you get used to it and somehow you are able to control some of the obsessiveness momentarily. Well the obsessiveness starts back when SNSD make a comeback album.( well maybe that's just me I think)

Well don't be afraid cuz your not alone in this world. because I'm just like you only I started to get the disease early in late 2008. But at that time I had a lot in my mind, I had the national school examination to worry (In Malaysia its SPM) so I can't really devote myself to know about them yet. I had to wait another year before I'm able to. It took me about a month to know them generally (name, birthdate, and some of their habits.) It took me another 4 months to get to know them better in terms of their vocal range , attitude, their voice, their habits and etc.In that 4 months I started to download just about everything that has to do with them. Day and night I'm at the pc youtubing, googling, downloading, frequently going in and out of soshified . Almost all the tabs in my chrome is about SNSD. Thats how I started to consider having the 4th language. I already know malay, english and mandarin. and now korean ( well not fully understand I can read but I have no idea what does it mean. haha

Well that about it I think if any of you guys out there have the same problem and seek help. i suggest you to go to these websites.

Girls’ Generation catalysed education diplomacy between New York and Korea

Girls’ Generation, who is promoting K-Pop worldwide, has been named as one of the main contributors in attracting the ‘State University of New York Korea’ to be set up as the first overseas branch school in Korea and the university will be opened next year March in Incheon.
Here are the details explaining how Girls’ Generation has accomplished such an educational mission, which is something unrelated to their career or the showbiz in general.
Since 2009, the city of Incheon has been seeking educational institutions to set up their overseas branch school at the Songdo Global Campus. The Songdo Global Campus, constructed with the expenditure of 1.142 trillion Won, is built to vitalize Incheon’s Songdo International City. However, it was not an easy task. Students who planned to move into the campus left one by one for other places. Although the 650 thousand-square-meter campus was built with a wide and comfortable environment, it was left empty as no one moved in.
This was caused especially by the change in decision of the State University of New York – Stony Brook University, which first planned to move in this September. Due to a 20% budget cut from the New York government to the main school, the new president of Stony Brook University Samuel Stanley decided to restructure the foundation policy.
As various states in the US cut down financial support for their state universities, this particular university was also affected, especially when President Samuel Stanley did not know Korea well, and a bad impression was left because of the left-winger mayor Song Young-gil. Attracting the school to Korea then became a more difficult task.
However, the change occurred at an unexpected stage when Mr. Kim Choon-ho (Vice President for Public and International Affairs at Konkuk University Korea) visited President Samuel Stanley’s office; Girls’ Generation’s photo appeared in front of his eyes.
After asking, Mr Kim found out that even though Mr Stanley did not know Korea well, he came to know K-Pop, including Girls’ Generation, as an influence from his daughter, a ‘hardcore’ Girls’ Generation fan in her 20s.
Coincidentally, Mr. Kim was on good terms with the chairman of SM Entertainment – Lee Soo-man. Mr. Kim was able to start a conversation with Mr. Stanley on Girls’ Generation. As Mr. Stanley gradually built a good impression on Korea, a visit to Korea in September 2010 was immediately arranged.
Mr. Kim took the opportunity to persuade Mr. Stanley, who was visiting Korea and Mayor Song Young-gil introduced the well-equipped global campus with sufficient operation fund to Mr. Stanley. At the same time, he also presented his outstanding foreign language ability, global mind and educational visions to him.
Girls’ Generation played the role of catalyser in the process. A dinner was arranged between Girls’ Generation and Mr. Stanley, where the members talked to him in a harmonious atmosphere. The members also took a photo with Mr. Stanley and presented an autographed CD to Mr. Stanley’s daughter as gift.
Through this series of incidents, Mr. Samuel Stanley gave a confirmed positive answer on the decision to set up a branch school in Korea. In addition to the two colleges built, another three colleges are expected to be constructed next year, during the second semester and Girls’ Generation is the ‘top contributor’ to this success.
Mr. Samuel Stanley attended the ‘SM Town Live in New York’ concert on October 24th with his daughter. Afterwards, he met Lee Soo-man during his visit to Incheon and told him about his attendance at the concert.
During this process, Mayor Song Young-gil paid a visit to New York to meet Mr. Stanley and he found out that Mr. Stanley spent efforts memorizing the names of the nine members, as well as learning more about K-Pop.
Girls’ Generation also made contributions during the Incheon Global Fair & Festival 2009, as they attracted visitors after being appointed as ambassadors. It was known that Hyoyeon was born in Incheon. Mayor Song Young-gil also established a good relationship with Chairman Lee Soo-man when he was a member of Parliament.
In response to this, Mayor Kim Wol-lyong said through Korean media, “In fact, before Mayor Ahn Sang-soo was in office, the plan for Song-do Global Campus was made but no one dreamed of its opening. However, with the help of Girls’ Generation in diplomacy, as well as Mayor Song’s proficient foreign language and enthusiasm towards education, the opening of the first overseas branch school in Korea was made possible.”

An analysis on 'The Boys' and SNSD vocalists - knowing your idol and the song better:

It made me excited listening to 'The Boys' at first because of Sica's 4 lines of 'Bring the boys out'. What I felt immediately was that it's impossible for her to sing the last line, because it's too difficult. After watching the 3 live stages in the first week, it wasn't to my surprise that they used original recording.

However many people were disappointed with sica for not singing the last line, I think some things need to be understood. It isn't because their vocal power are weakened, either are they lazy or ill, it's purely because the last line falls outside her vocal range. Also, Taeyeon did not sing the high note after 'My heart', because it's not within her vocal range.

Why is this so?

Let's first look at some of their songs containing high notes, we can know their vocal range.
Adapting the standard symbol, we denote high c as c3, # as half tone higher.
(The number behind the letter = octave, letter is the note)

Debut song and first album:
Into The New World - it's a song with high difficulty. Sica's highest note is #f3 (4:05), but she only hit it at one word (the 4 notes of her line are #f3, e3, b2 and a2). Taeyeon's highest is e3 (3:50)

Girls' Generation - Another difficult one. Both Taeyeon and Sica hit e3, (3:15, 3:36)

Complete - Sica's highest is e3 (3:24)

09 Album:
Gee - Taeyeon hit e3 (2:58)
Way To Go - Taeyeon hit #d3 (2:41 "Ready for your love")
Genie - Taeyeon hit #c3
Etude - Taeyeon and sica sang d3 (1:12, 2:15 and 3:05)

2nd full album:
Run Devil Run - Taeyeon's second 'Run' in "Run Run Run" is e3
Star x3 - Taeyeon, sica and Sunny all hit d3
Show Show Show - Taeyeon hit e3 (2:39)

3rd Mini Album and Jap album:
Hoot - Taeyeon hit d3 (1:52)
Mistake - Taeyeon, Seohyun and Sunny all hit e3
Mr. Taxi - Taeyeon hit #d3 at "Goodbye" (2:56, electronic)
You-aholic - Taeyeon and Sica hit #d3
Bad Girl - Both Taeyeon and Sica hit e3 (But sica sang Falsetto)

Solo songs:
Taeyeon - "If" hit d3, "Can you hear..." hit #d3

"Hush Hush" , Taeyeon's highest was f3 (3:14), it's the only time Taeyeon sang this high, and she did it in a live performance, sincere praises for her.

Sunny: "Finally Now" and "Sunny", her highest was #d3

Fany: "By Myself" #c3, highest in "Ring" was d3, highest in "It's Fantastic" was #d3

Seohyun: Highest in "It's ok even if it hurts" hit d3

;

Now let's conclude:

In the 5 main vocalists, sica has the highest vocal range, she can sing #f3.
Taeyeon is 2nd, f3.
Seohyun and Sunny can hit e3, Fany #d3.
(Sica and Taeyeon's range should be more accurate, because they sing high notes very often. The other 3 sang lesser times, I might have missed some)

Looking at 'The Boys' now:

Taeyeon at 3:04 has an harmony of #c3 and e3 ("My Heart", which is something she worries for, according to her brain map), she chose to sing e3. It's not surprising, because she has the ability.

Sica's 3rd line of "Girls bring the boys out" is #c3, it's within her vocal range, watching the Inkigayo stage, she did it easily.
Sica's performance wasn't satisfying during Mubank and Mucore, but we know that she and Taeyeon were sick (from the fan account), she kept coughing, while Inkigayo was pre-recorded.

Looking at the highest notes of 'The Boys':

Taeyeon after singing e3 ("My heart") has a higher note #f3. From the analysis above, we know that she's never sung anything higher than an f3, so we can deduce that this note is out of her vocal range.

If you ask who sang it during recording, I'm not sure too. But judging from the vocal quality, it doesn't sound like any member. So, it's very normal that Taeyeon doesn't sing this note during live stage.

Sica's 4th line of "girls bring the boys out" is entirely #f3. From the analysis above, we know that she only sang this note once, but in "Into the new world", she only hit #f3 at one word, this shouldn't be difficult. But this is a line! It's not the same level of difficulty after all.

To help you further understand, we shall use IU's "Good Day" as an example.
In this song, IU sang #d3 many times, at last part there was a shift in key, rising to e3.
Although it's really great, it's not extreme. e3-f3-#f3, we have to admit that IU is strong singing this during live, but take note that there is no lyrics in these 3 notes, and the dance isn't vigorous.

Back to 'The Boys', making Sica sing #f3 at the end of the song, after dancing like a spiderman, it's killing her. Even if she does it, I'll be very worried.

This is just done based on personal experience, forgive me for any mistake.

My opinion about "The News about the senior-junior (Sunbae-Hoobae) in the K-Pop Industry"

Regarding this article publish on 19 October, Goo Hara member of a girl group KARA states that one of the junior girl group did not give them a proper greetings.

Now following this article another article came out to explained to netizen who are not familiar with respecting the elderly in all aspect of daily life; Heres the link

I am Malaysian which generally practice this asian culture of respect the elderly. I find it trouble to explain to my non-asian friends. In my life I have once rejected this culture during years in boarding school. There the seniors practically can do anything to the juniors on the other hand the juniors can do anything. Well to me its ok as long it did not bother us the junior at that time that much. But the hatred developed when the seniors started to make us stayed up all night without any valid reason at all.Well at first it is because of our lack of discipline which I have to agree on as my batch is not that discipline. However as time goes on and their reason started to make no sense. Then it gets worst after we the juniors try to make a complaint to the wardens. However to our disappointment, instead of the seniors being punish, it is us the junior got the punishment. These events carried on for about 8 months and along that time we tried to complaint again to the wardens. Once again the complaint is ignored and yes we got (i wouldn't say it as bully but to make it simple its similar to bully) . All the time we have to be patience and the feeling of dissatisfaction and anger build ed up throughout that one year of hatred. Next it is our turn to become seniors, and we had a batch meeting and after much discussions ;we decided to have a somewhat selfish policy (a policy in which the seniors will not in any way disturb or interfere in the juniors daily life activity and vice versa). This policy have pros and cons to it.

The Pros:  - Technically we have do not have a major fight and just a few minor disagreement with them. The Seniors have a bit time of peacefulness.

The Cons: - The relationship between the seniors and the juniors are  kept professional and the seniors seldom talk to the juniors . The juniors' attitude towards the teachers are lacking. The teachers now complaint more about the attitude of the juniors and again blame the seniors for not properly educate them.( Note that there are a few juniors that practice this culture well without having to teach.)

Now back to the main topic. I would not say I agree and like this culture 100%. I am okay with this culture as long as the seniors did not violate the basic human right and the juniors didn't do something stupid enough to make any person angry. Now in my opinion in terms of the sunbae - hoobae terms , let say group 1 consist of 5 members mostly age between 24 - 29. Group 2 consists of 9 members age between 18 - 22. Group 2 debut 4 years earlier than group 1. now in my sincere opinion I think if the group 1 (the whole member) met with group 2 in a music show or music award; group 1 has to respect group 2 more and group 2 has to respect group 1 as oppa/hyung/unnie/noona - dongsaeng. Well when it is outside the music show or music award for instance one of group member 1 is an MC or permanent guest on a variety show the fellow member group 2 has to respect him or she as oppa/hyung/noona/unnie. I know its kinda complicated but try to understand slowly.

I am sorry if there is some misunderstanding about the fact stated in this article or any spelling or grammar mistakes that I had made in this article.
